Portugal is a southern European country on the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain. Its location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture: salt cod and grilled sardines are national dishes, the Algarve's beaches are a major destination and much of the nation’s architecture dates to the 1500s–1800s.Portugal boasts a rich and diverse culture, Mediterranean climate, and a safe and stable setting ideal for raising families, conducting business or travelling.
The Portugal Global Residence Permit Program is a five-year residence-by-investment program for non-EU nationals. Portugal is a full member of the EU. The residence permit allows visa-free access to Europe’s Schengen Area and requires an average stay of just seven days a year in Portugal over the five-year period.
To qualify for the Portuguese Golden Visa program, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
As a resident of Portugal, you and your family are entitled to freedom of movement in the Schengen area. As a citizen of Portugal, you can travel to 185+ countries visa free.
Portuguese citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 188 countries and territories, ranking the Portuguese passport 6th in terms of travel freedom
The residence permit is valid for a period of one year after issue and renewable for two subsequent periods of two years. The Global Residence Permit Program requires at least four trips to Portugal during the five-year period: twice at the initial application (to choose the qualifying investment and start the legal process, and to provide the biometric data) and at each renewal (year 1 and year 3). Family reunification is possible at any stage of the program.
